September 26, 2006 – The Christmas Album Acoustic Hearts of Winter is Released by Recording Artists Aly & AJ

On September 26, 2006, the second studio album by recording duo Aly & AJ was released through Hollywood Records. The album features cover versions of traditional Christmas carols, as well as two original songs by the duo and song writers Antonina Armato and Tim James. The album fared well on the Billboard charts, with the original song “Greatest Time of Year” being used as the promotional song for the live-action film The Santa Clause 3. It peaked at number 78 on the Billboard 200, and overall sold 110,000 copies.

August 25, 1992 – The Album Free by Mickey Mouse Club Band The Party is Released

On August 25, 1992, the second studio album by the band The Party was released through Hollywood and Elektra Records. The band was comprised of five members of the Mickey Mouse Club: Albert Fields, Tiffini Hale, Chase Hampton, Deedee Magno, and Damon Pampolina. The album, named Free, had the band working with the likes of record producer Teddy Riley, Dr. Dre, and E-Smooth. The album was more mature in sound and lyrics than the first album, and had two singles: “Free” and “All About Love.” The band promoted the album alongside the band Color Me Badd, as well as on an episode of the hit show Blossom. The album was not as successful as its predecessor, and the group would disband in 1993.

July 27, 1962 – The Firehouse Five Plus Two Records at the Golden Horseshoe

On July 27, 1962, the Dixieland jazz band Firehouse Five Plus Two recorded their performance at the Golden Horseshoe in Disneyland. The band was made up of several Disney employees, including leader Ward Kimball, Frank Thomas, Harper Goff, Danny Alguire, Clarke Mallery, Monte Mountjoy, and Ed Penner. This would be the first of two performances recorded and later released on albums through the Good Time Jazz Records label.

February 28, 2006 – The Steve Tyrell Album The Disney Standards is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On February 28, 2006, jazz musician Steve Tyrell released the album The Disney Standards through Walt Disney Records. The album features 14 songs now considered Disney classics, ranging from “When You Wish Upon a Star” to “When She Loved Me.” Three songs on the album feature other artists: Chris Botti on “When You Wish Upon a Star,” Dr. John on “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” and Dave Koz on “You’ll Be in My Heart.” The album has received positive reviews from critics and listeners alike.

December 2, 2002 – The Theme Song for The Santa Clause 2, “Santa Claus Lane,” is Released

On December 2, 2002, the promotional single for the live-action feature film The Santa Clause 2, “Santa Claus Lane,” was released through Buena Vista Records. The single was the second single from Disney Channel star Hilary Duff’s debut album, Santa Claus Lane, a collection of Christmas songs. Duff also promoted the single on Disney Channel, particularly the Movie Surfers television program, which was also promoting the Tim Allen film. The single was released with the album version and two mixes: the North Pole Mix, and the Megamix.

October 29, 2002 – Country Band Rascal Flatts Releases Their Second Album Melt Through Lyric Street Records

On October 29, 2002, the country band Rascal Flatts released their second album through Lyric Street Records, a label part of the Disney Music Group. Titled Melt, the album was successful for the band, peaking at number 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, and 5 on the Billboard 200. The album also gave the band its first number 1 country hit single with the song “These Days.” The album has since been certified triple platinum.

October 16, 2007 – The Album Disney Channel Holiday is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On October 16, 2007, the album Disney Channel Holiday was released through Walt Disney Records. The album contains popular Disney Channel associated artists singing their rendition of classic Christmas songs. Some songs were taken from previous releases, including “Last Christmas” by Ashley Tisdale and “Greatest Time of Year” by Aly and AJ. Artists included in the album are Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana), The Jonas Brothers, The Cheetah Girls, Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical), Corbin Bleu (High School Musical, Jump In!), Keke Palmer (Jump In!), Christy Carlson Romano (Even Stevens, Kim Possible), Billy Ray Cyrus (Hannah Montana), Jordan Pruitt, Lucas Grabeel (High School Musical), Kyle Massey (That’s So Raven, Cory in the House), Aly & AJ, Monique Coleman (High School Musical), and Drew Seeley (High School Musical: The Concert). The album peaked at number 32 on the Billboard 200 charts, and sold about 200,000 copies.

September 29, 1958 – The LP Firehouse Five Plus Two – Dixieland Favorites is Released

On September 29, 1958 the LP album Firehouse Five Plus Two – Dixieland Favorites was released on the Good Time Jazz label. The band was comprised of members of the Walt Disney Studios animation department, including Nine Old Men members Ward Kimball (trombone) and Frank Thomas (piano). The group also included Danny Alguire (cornet), Harper Goff (banjo), Clarke Mallery (clarinet), Monte Mountjoy (drums), and Ed Penner (bass saxophone); it would later include Jimmy MacDonald, George Probert, Dick Roberts, Ralph Ball, and George Bruns. The album contains several Dixieland standards recorded by the band at their peak.

September 23, 2008 – Demi Lovato’s Debut Album Don’t Forget is Released Through Hollywood Records

On September 23, 2008, the debut album of recording artist and Disney Channel star Demi Lovato, entitled Don’t Forget, was released through Hollywood Records. The songs on the album were mostly written by Lovato and the Jonas Brothers, and capitalized on the success of the Disney Channel Original Film Camp Rock. The album debuted and peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 charts, and was eventually certified Gold by the RIAA. Two singles were released to promote the album: “Get Back,” and “La La Land.” “Get Back” was released on August 12, and peaked at number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100; “La La Land” was released on April 10, 2009, and peaked at number 52 on the Billboard Hot 100.  “La La Land” was also the first song of Lovato’s to be released internationally.

September 17, 2002 – The Compilation Album Disneymania is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On September 17, 2002, the first album in the Disneymania series, Disneymania (also known as Disneymania 1) was released through Walt Disney Records. The idea of the album was to have popular modern musical artists perform various Disney standards, with some songs having music videos released on the Platinum Releases of Disney animated films. The album peaked at number 52 on the Billboard 200 chart, and achieved Gold certification status from the RIAA. Artists involved in this project included Usher, N’Sync, Hilary Duff, and Jessica Simpson. Four singles were released to promote the album: “Reflection” by Christina Aguilera, “Beauty and the Beast” by Jump5, “Colors of the Wind” by Ashanti and Lil’Sis Shi Shi, and “I Wanna Be Like You” by Smash Mouth.
