May 3, 2005 – The Compilation Album Disney Wishes! Is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On May 3, 2005, the special compilation album Disney Wishes! was released through Walt Disney Records. All proceeds from sales of the album went to the Make A Wish Foundation, with which Disney has a long-standing partnership with through the Disney Worldwide Outreach Program. The album features covers of classic Disney songs, performed by such artists as Barbara Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, and Bette Midler.

March 14, 2000 – The Tribute Album Color, Rhythm and Magic: Favorites from Disney Classics is Released

On March 14, 2000, the tribute album Color, Rhythm and Magic: Favorites from Disney Classics was released through Varèse Sarabande records. The album, recorded by Earl Rose, takes Disney songs and composes them in a light jazz format with piano, percussion, and violin, among other instruments. It features classics ranging from “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” to “Someday” from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

January 27, 2004 – The Compilation Album Disneymania 2 is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On January 27, 2004, the second compilation album in the Disneymania series, entitled Disneymania 2, was released through Walt Disney Records. The album, like its predecessor, features pop covers of classic Disney favorites. Artists featured were Disney Channel star Hilary Duff, indie band They Might Be Giants, and the musical group Disney Channel Circle of Stars, which were Disney Channel stars gathered for the purpose of singing Disney covers. Several of the songs were used to promote Disney movies released on DVD or soundtracks for feature films. The album was successful, reaching a peak of 29 on the Billboard 200 chart and being certified gold by the RIAA.

October 11, 2005 – The Disney Princess Christmas Album is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On October 11, 2005, the Disney Princess Christmas Album was released through Walt Disney Records. The album gave a Disney twist on several traditional Christmas carols, as well as a few original compositions, including “Christmas is Coming” sung by Disney Princesses, and “Beautiful” by Jim Brickman featuring Wayne Brady. The album was re-released in 2009 with the song “Christmas Eve Dinner” replacing “Beautiful.”

July 24, 2001 – The Soundtrack for the Film The Princess Diaries is Released

On July 24, 2001, the soundtrack to the live action feature film The Princess Diaries was released. The album featured a mix of songs featured in the film and those inspired by the film. The artists varied from popular boyband Backstreet Boys to film actress Mandy Moore. The album reached the peak position of 41 on the Billboard 200 chart, as well as the number 5 position on the US Top Soundtracks chart. On September 21, 2004, the album was certified Gold by the RIAA.

April 1, 2003 – The Tribute Album O Mickey, Where Art Thou is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On April 1, 2003, the compilation tribute album O Mickey, Where Art Thou was released through Walt Disney Records. The album featured a Bluegrass take on classic Disney songs, from “When You Wish Upon a Star” to “When Somebody Loved Me,” by stars of the genre, including Elizabeth Cook and Stonewall Jackson. The album received mostly mixed reviews. It peaked at number 21 on Billboard’s Top Kid Audio chart, and 51 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart.

February 28, 2006 – The Steve Tyrell Album The Disney Standards is Released Through Walt Disney Records

“Steve Tyrell is back with Disney Standards, an album full of Disney classics…”

On February 28, 2006, jazz musician Steve Tyrell released the album The Disney Standards through Walt Disney Records. The album features 14 songs now considered Disney classics, ranging from “When You Wish Upon a Star” to “When She Loved Me.” Three songs on the album feature other artists: Chris Botti on “When You Wish Upon a Star,” Dr. John on “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” and Dave Koz on “You’ll Be in My Heart.” The album has received positive reviews from critics and listeners alike.

September 17, 2002 – The Compilation Album Disneymania is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On September 17, 2002, the first album in the Disneymania series, Disneymania (also known as Disneymania 1) was released through Walt Disney Records. The idea of the album was to have popular modern musical artists perform various Disney standards, with some songs having music videos released on the Platinum Releases of Disney animated films. The album peaked at number 52 on the Billboard 200 chart, and achieved Gold certification status from the RIAA. Artists involved in this project included Usher, N’Sync, Hilary Duff, and Jessica Simpson. Four singles were released to promote the album: “Reflection” by Christina Aguilera, “Beauty and the Beast” by Jump5, “Colors of the Wind” by Ashanti and Lil’Sis Shi Shi, and “I Wanna Be Like You” by Smash Mouth.

August 20

August 20, 2002 – Disney’s Greatest Vol. 3 is Released Through Walt Disney Records

On August 20, 2002, the third and final volume of the Disney’s Greatest albums was released through Walt Disney Records. The album includes a mix of music from all aspects of Disney, from feature films (“Give a Little Whistle”), Disney Parks (“Yo, Ho! [A Pirate’s Life for Me]), and television (“Mickey Mouse Club, Alma Mater”). Famous artists are also included in the album, including Sarah McLachlan (“When She Loved Me”) and Jonatha Brooke (“I’ll Try”). The collection received mixed to positive reviews.

June 26, 2007 – Two Albums for Pixar’s Animated Feature Film Ratatouille are Released Through Walt Disney Records

On June 26, 2007, two soundtrack albums for Pixar’s with animated feature film Ratatouille were released through Walt Disney Records: the official score composed by Michael Giacchino, and a compilation album entitled Ratatouille: What’s Cooking? This was Giacchino’s second time working with Pixar, having worked with director Brad Bird on The Incredibles. French artist Camille was hired to perform the ending song “Le Festin” (translation: the feast), with the song remaining in French in each translated version of the film. The score garnered Giacchino his first Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score and his first Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album. The second album is a compilation of songs that are inspired, rather than taken from, the film. The album includes tracks titled “Saturday Night Fish Fry” and “Banana Split for My Baby,” and are performed by Fred Mollin and the Blue Sea Band, Johnny Neel, and Troy Johnson.
